FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MEMORY LANE
Memory Lane is a mail order magazine publisher specialising in dance music and jazz mainly of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The following are the answers to questions we are frequently asked.
Can you provide information about a particular artiste, band, record, book, etc?
As a small organisation, we just have not the resources to provide this on an individual basis. However, if you are a registered subscriber to Memory Lane we will help you if we have information on file. (To subscribe, click on On-Line Shop" above.) Otherwise we suggest you advertise in Memory Lane. (Click on Advertising above). Alternatively, if you are, or become, a subscriber to Memory Lane you may be able to have a readers' letter published requesting your information. (But we cannot guarantee to publish all letters received!)
How do I obtain copies of Memory Lane?
It is only available by subscription. Click on "On-Line Shop" above. However, we would be happy to send a free sample copy if you e-mail us at

How do I know when my subscription expires?
We always send a reminder when renewal is due.
Can Memory Lane feature my favourite artiste?
We note all requests for coverage of your favourite artistes and we will feature them in Memory Lane as soon as we can.
Is there a Memory Lane Party?
Currently we do not hold party nights, but we do offer guided walks in London and social events during the afternoon. Details can be found on the “Events” link above.
I've heard about the Memory Lane Guided Walks. Please tell me more.
Memory Lane offers a guided London walk each Spring to view locations associated with the British Dance bands and Al Bowlly. Click on the “Events” link above.
How do I send money for Memory Lane and other publications?
We accept payments via PayPal from our On-Line Shop, see link above. If you do not wish to buy-on line, alternative payment methods are explained at the foot of our On-line shop page.
How do I obtain re-issue CDs?
Click on the link to our On-Line shop above where you will find details of Memory Lane's own CDs plus our publication “Nostalgia Directory” listing other suppliers and manufacturers, most of whom sell by mail order. Otherwise try the major internet suppliers, such as HMV, Amazon or CDNow.
How do I Obtain or dispose of old records, gramophones, books, magazines, etc. and including custom made cassettes?
We suggest you try advertising in Memory Lane. Many people have obtained or disposed of items in this way. It is excellent for finding that special "want". Click on the Advertising in Memory Lane link above.
Can you give me the address of…?
It is not our policy to provide private addresses and telephone numbers as we generally hold these details confidentially. Many people do not agree with having their addresses passed on.
Can you provide valuations of old records, books, etc?
It is difficult to value items as so much depends on their condition, rarity, collectability, etc. However, we will give you an assessment of the total value of a collection of records if you care to send a list, your assessment of their condition and standard valuation fee of £8.00 per hundred records, or part thereof, listed with a minimum fee of £16.00.
