Memory Lane is always seeking
well-researched articles to appear in the magazine and on this web site. Please
e-mail the editor, Ray Pallett at editor@memorylane.org.uk
if you can contribute.
Below is advice for all writers to help
them present professionally written work for Memory Lane.
MEMORY LANE WRITING GUIDE
If you wish to write for Memory Lane, we would ask you to follow these
guidelines.
Ideally, please produce your article using WORD and send it by e-mail to the Editor at

Unfortunately, we cannot accept material written using other software.
The following notes are intended to assist writers who wish to
submit articles, letters, reviews, etc., for publication. A consistent approach
by writers will greatly assist the editor and proof-readers, and save time and
costs at the printers. It will also increase the likelihood of your work being
published.
Please:
- use single spacing
- use 12 point Times New Roman
- do not type anything in block capitals or bold
- put song, film, show, book or other titles in Italics,
not inverted commas or underlined
- do not use abbreviations for words, e.g. orch for orchestra, pno for piano
- do not put full stops between initials, e.g. BBC not B.B.C.
- do not use Initial Capital letters for anything apart from proper names. For
example, do not use for band unless part of an official name - Harry Roy and
his Band, but Harry Roy’s band.
- use single marks for speech quotations and double marks
for quotations within quotations. Use for no other purpose.
- try to avoid abbreviating words by using an apostrophe.
For example "do not" and "It is" not "don’t" or "it’s".
- use either "the 1940s" or "the forties" in preference to
"the ‘40s" or "1940’s".
If you are only able to submit articles on paper, please use
the additional following guidelines.
- Please type on A4 paper using one side only.
- Leave a one inch margin top, bottom, left and right.
- Use one-and-a-half or double spacing.
- If an italics facility is not available, all song and
other titles should be underlined. Do not use italics, quotation marks
or anything else.
Thank you for your co-operation in using these
guidelines.
